In her paintings, Ming Morssinkhof (1998, the Netherlands) weaves archival material, personal memories, and associative images into layered compositions. Driven by a fascination with the contemporary abundance of information, she investigates what captures our attention and how our selection determines how we look.

Morssinkhof collects photos, texts, videos, music, film, and memories. These archives form a continuously growing network of impressions and knowledge. In her painting process, fragments are remixed and reconnected, creating constellations in which different times, sources, and perspectives converge.

Her background in psychology serves as an important source of inspiration. The functioning of the brain and neural networks provides a framework for how information is stored, connected, and given meaning. What we see is constantly shaped by language, knowledge, experience, and expectation. Morssinkhof explores these frameworks and the space that intuition and imagination offer to think beyond them.

Between physical and digital archives, a painting practice emerges in which collecting also becomes a form of thinking. With dreaminess and poetry, Morssinkhof seeks a temporary ordering of noise, memory, knowledge, and imagination. From the abundance, a new space emerges: not to perfectly understand the world, but to be able to look at it anew, and more attentively.
